Two men have been hospitalised following a serious single-vehicle crash in Kelso, on the outskirts of Townsville, on Sunday night. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports that a car had flipped and rolled multiple times, leaving both occupants with injuries.
Incident Details
The accident occurred on a road in Kelso around 8:30 pm. According to police, the vehicle lost control and rolled several times before coming to a stop. Both men, believed to be in their 20s, were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be freed by emergency crews.
Injuries and Treatment
Paramedics treated the men at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries before transporting them to Townsville University Hospital. One man sustained minor injuries, while the other suffered moderate injuries, including cuts and bruises. Both are reported to be in stable condition.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Early indications suggest that speed may have been a factor, but officers are also examining whether alcohol or driver distraction contributed. The road was closed for several hours while forensic officers examined the scene and cleared debris.
Community Response
Local residents expressed concern over the frequency of accidents on that stretch of road. One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "We often hear screeching tyres and loud bangs. It's a dangerous road, especially at night." The crash has reignited calls for improved safety measures, such as speed bumps or better lighting.
Queensland Police have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as details emerge.
