Police Vehicle Crashes Into Same Sydney Home For Second Time In Two Years
A family in Western Sydney has been left stunned and shaken after a police car crashed into their home for the second time in just two years, causing significant structural damage and forcing them to evacuate overnight.
Dramatic Incident Captured On CCTV
The alarming incident occurred around 5pm on Monday on Holroyd Road in the suburb of Merrylands. According to authorities, the police vehicle was traveling under lights and sirens while responding to an urgent duty call. Dramatic CCTV footage shows the car speeding over a speed hump before hurtling directly toward the house and crashing violently through the garage.
The impact was severe enough to partially collapse the garage structure. The front of the police paddy wagon sustained extensive damage, with witnesses reporting smoke billowing from the vehicle immediately after the collision. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the crash, according to official police statements.
Family Narrowly Avoids Tragedy
The homeowner revealed he had been standing outside with his grandchildren just moments before the police car smashed into their property. The close call has left the family deeply unsettled. Due to the substantial damage to their garage and home, the family was forced to seek alternative accommodation for the night while assessments and repairs are organized.
A witness named Joe, who happened to be nearby when the incident occurred, described hearing the police car "flying down" the road with lights and sirens activated. "Next minute I hear this almighty screech and then a big bang into the house," Joe recounted. "I think they just hit the corner a bit too fast."
History Repeats Itself
What makes this incident particularly remarkable is that it marks the second time in two years that a police vehicle has crashed into this same property. In 2024, another police car involved in a pursuit collided with the front fence of the home, though that earlier incident caused less severe damage compared to Monday's crash.
The home's location adds another layer of concern, as it sits adjacent to Hilltop Road Public School. Fortunately, the school was closed for the day when the crash occurred, preventing potential injuries to students or staff.
Investigation Underway
Police have confirmed that the vehicle was responding to a job on urgent duty but was not engaged in a pursuit at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, examining factors such as speed, road conditions, and driver response.
The family now faces the daunting task of repairing their home for the second time in two years due to police vehicle collisions, raising questions about safety protocols for emergency response vehicles in residential areas.
