Gold Coast Home Invasion: Teen Arrested After Man Stabbed, Nose Partially Severed
An alleged home invader has been arrested just metres from the scene of a brutal confrontation on the Gold Coast that left a man fighting for life with multiple stab wounds and part of his nose severed. The 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody less than twelve hours after the violent incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Violent Early Morning Confrontation
The incident unfolded at approximately 4am on Tuesday when intruders broke into a home on Plateau Crescent in Carrara. A 38-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were awakened by their dogs and noticed light coming from their loungeroom. According to Gold Coast Detective Inspector Mark Mooney, the man confronted the alleged intruder, sparking a violent altercation.
The male victim was stabbed multiple times during the struggle, sustaining horrific facial injuries that included part of his nose being cut off. The woman assisted in removing the offender from the house and received a cut to her chest during the confrontation. Both victims were transported to hospital, with the man initially in a life-threatening condition.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Police immediately taped off the crime scene and launched an intensive search for those responsible. Less than twelve hours later, at about 3pm on Tuesday, officers raided a home on the same street and took the 18-year-old man into custody.
7NEWS exclusively captured the moment of arrest, showing the teen being led to a police car in handcuffs while dressed in a blue forensic suit with his hands covered in paper bags. The arrest location was just metres from where the violent home invasion occurred earlier that day.
Victim Conditions and Police Statements
Detective Inspector Mooney provided an update on the victims' conditions, stating: "The male victim is in a serious but stable condition at the hospital and the female victim has been treated for her injuries and discharged." He added that police have been able to speak with both victims, who are "in high spirits but obviously traumatised by the incident."
The property remains cordoned off as investigations continue into the overnight break-in. Police are treating the incident as a random attack, with no apparent connection between the victims and the alleged offender.
Community Reaction and Background
One neighbour expressed concern about the violent incident occurring in their area, telling 7NEWS: "It's a bit disturbing, you don't really want that sort of thing happening in your area, it makes you a little bit more aware of being cautious around your property."
It's understood the couple had only lived at the home for a few months prior to the attack. The investigation continues as police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the home invasion and whether additional suspects were involved.
