Melbourne Driver Violently Attacked at Illegal Car Meet, Incident Captured on Video
A driver in Melbourne's north has been violently set upon by a mob at an illegal car meet, with the shocking incident captured on camera. The attack appears to have started when someone in the group kicked the man's car as he was trying to navigate past a gathering of approximately 200 revellers.
Witnesses report that the frustrated motorist stormed into the crowd after his vehicle was targeted by an individual in the group as he attempted to pass by. Video footage shows the man surrounded by the mob, with someone appearing to kick him in the back. When he retaliated, he was quickly overwhelmed by the group, highlighting the dangerous escalation of the situation.
Locals Express Shock and Concern Over Recurring Behaviour
Residents in the area say such behaviour has become all too common, with illegal meetups disrupting daily life and safety. "Pretty ruthless from them, not really caring about people's safety," said Zaed Alkhouri from a nearby gym. "I was quite shocked. It was all loud noises. There was also fireworks going off at the same time. People yelling, screaming."
The man could be seen storming to confront the group before being attacked, underscoring the volatile nature of these gatherings. This incident follows more chaos 15km away in Campbellfield, where a woman was caught in harm's way, further illustrating the widespread impact of such events.
Businesses Suffer as Illegal Meetups Become Weekly Occurrences
Local businesses report that these illegal meetups are becoming a weekly event, costing them precious customers and creating significant disruptions. "There's been customers that have trouble getting out of the gym, so they've had to wait until it's stopped and then they can leave," Alkhouri added. Rubbish and tyre shards remained strewn across all corners of the intersection this morning, a visible reminder of the aftermath.
Police arrived after the meet wrapped up, but they are yet to lay any charges, raising questions about enforcement and prevention strategies. The community continues to voice concerns over the escalating violence and disruption caused by these illegal gatherings, calling for stronger action to ensure public safety.
