Massive Cocaine Haul Uncovered in Luxury Minibus at Adelaide Port

In a significant drug bust, authorities have discovered approximately $9 million worth of cocaine hidden behind a television inside a luxury minibus in South Australia. The Australian Border Force (ABF) intercepted a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel at Outer Harbor, an industrial suburb northwest of Adelaide, on Monday, following targeted intelligence operations.

High-Tech Detection Leads to Seizure

Using advanced specialist technology, including videoscopes, and with the assistance of detector dogs, ABF officers located several 1kg packages of white powder concealed behind a television within the vehicle. Presumptive testing confirmed the substance as cocaine, with the total haul weighing more than 28kg. The matter was promptly referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), who seized the drugs and initiated a comprehensive investigation.

Estimated Impact on Community and Crime Syndicates

Authorities estimate that this quantity of cocaine could have generated around 140,000 street-level deals, highlighting the potential harm to the community. AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Simon Lalic emphasised the collaborative efforts to disrupt organised crime networks, stating, "Criminals are driven by their own greed and profit and will attempt any method to import harmful illicit substances into our country. No matter how creative these criminals attempt to be, our message is clear — we are on to you."

Border Force Commends Officers for Prevention Efforts

ABF Superintendent Jody Griswood praised the officers involved, noting that each detection at the border plays a crucial role in reducing drug-related crimes and cutting off funding to international criminal syndicates. "Every detection of illicit drugs at the border reduces drug-related crimes in the Australian community and takes money out of the hands of international criminal syndicates," Griswood said. "I commend the highly skilled officers involved, who were vital to the detection of this large quantity of cocaine, thereby preventing significant community harm."
