Police Release Images of Three Men in Connection to Sydney Grandfather's Alleged Mistaken Identity Kidnapping and Murder
Authorities have issued CCTV footage showing three individuals sought for questioning regarding the tragic case of Chris Baghsarian, an 85-year-old grandfather from North Ryde, who was allegedly abducted and killed in what police describe as a horrific instance of mistaken identity. The incident, which has shocked the community, unfolded on February 13 when Baghsarian was forcibly taken from his home and placed into a waiting SUV.
Disturbing Discovery and Investigation Details
Following the alleged kidnapping, police conducted a raid on a property located on Wildthorn Ave in Dural, a semi-rural suburb. This location is believed to be where Baghsarian was held captive for a period. The investigation was aided by disturbing images and videos that circulated online, depicting Baghsarian in a bloodied state, bound, and with a shirt covering his head, alongside an image of a severed finger.
Human remains, later confirmed to be those of Baghsarian, were discovered 11 days after his disappearance near a golf club in Pitt Town, adding to the gravity of the case.
Charges and Ongoing Legal Proceedings
In the aftermath, two men, Daniel Stevens, 24, and Gerard Andrews, 29, were charged with murder and take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm. Both individuals are currently before the courts, with proceedings ongoing.
New CCTV Footage Released
On Wednesday, police released additional CCTV footage capturing three masked men walking towards the Dural property on the night of the alleged kidnapping. The footage also shows a blue Hyundai sedan, identifiable by a missing hubcap on its left side, arriving and departing the location just after 12pm on February 14. Authorities are urging the public to assist in identifying the driver of this vehicle.
Linked Incidents and Vehicle Fires
Further complicating the investigation, two suspicious car fires on Good St in Westmead, occurring several days after Baghsarian's alleged kidnapping, are believed to be connected to the case. One of the vehicles, a 2022 Toyota Corolla with Victorian registration, had been reported stolen from Victoria on the same day as the kidnapping, though it was partially destroyed in the fire.
Community Mourning and Call for Information
Chris Baghsarian was farewelled in a private funeral on Monday and laid to rest at Macquarie Park Cemetery in North Ryde. He is survived by his two children and grandchildren, leaving a legacy of family love amidst this tragedy.
