Bomb Squad Neutralises Improvised Explosive Device in Geelong West Following Police Raid

Two individuals are now in custody after bomb disposal experts were urgently called to neutralise an improvised explosive device discovered in Geelong West. The tense operation unfolded on Clonard Avenue, where officers clad in heavy bomb suits swarmed the scene and promptly closed off both ends of the street to ensure public safety.

Intense Police Operation and Arrests

The incident commenced when police executed a search warrant at a property in Geelong West, leading to the arrest of a man. During the raid, investigators seized a firearm, ammunition, drugs, and a significant amount of cash from the premises. In a nearby vehicle, authorities located what has been described by police as an improvised explosive device, prompting an immediate response from specialised bomb disposal units.

A bomb disposal robot was deployed to the scene to assist in the delicate neutralisation process, highlighting the high-risk nature of the situation. Residents in the area were instructed to remain inside their homes until the device was safely defused by experts, ensuring no harm came to the community.

Further Discoveries and Ongoing Investigation

In a subsequent development, police made a further discovery in a storage shed nearby, where they seized a 3D printer and several 3D printed firearms. This find adds a layer of complexity to the investigation, suggesting potential links to illicit manufacturing activities.

The 30-year-old man and 33-year-old woman taken into custody are currently assisting police with their inquiries. Authorities have confirmed that the situation has been fully defused, and the street is now declared safe, with normal activities resuming in the area.

This incident underscores the critical role of bomb disposal teams in handling dangerous materials and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat serious crimes in the region.
