Perth man, 21, charged with violent extremism material after AFP, ASIO probe
Perth man charged over violent extremism material

A 21-year-old Perth man has been remanded in custody after being charged with multiple offences, including possessing violent extremist material, following a major investigation involving Australian security agencies.

Counter-Terrorism Investigation Leads to Arrest

Lucas Shawn Cameron faced the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, 5 December 2025. The charges stem from an operation conducted by the Western Australian Joint Counter Terrorism Team, which includes officers from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), and WA Police.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a property in the suburb of Westminster on Thursday. During the search, they seized two computers and a mobile phone allegedly linked to the accused man.

An AFP spokesman stated that a forensic examination of one device allegedly uncovered violent extremist material. Police further claim the man used a messaging platform to seek assistance concerning explosive devices, military and tactical training, weapons manufacturing, and fake documents.

Alleged Bail Breaches Involving Previous Charges

The court heard that Mr Cameron was already on bail for separate, serious charges at the time of his latest arrest. He was charged in October with assaulting a woman and threatening to kill her.

Police allege that while on bail for those offences, the 21-year-old breached his conditions by sending text messages and making phone calls to the same woman. The courts had previously ordered him to have no contact with her.

Court Appearance and Future Proceedings

Following his appearance on Friday, the magistrate remanded Lucas Cameron in custody. His next court date is scheduled for 10 December 2025.

This case highlights the ongoing collaborative work of national and state agencies in monitoring and responding to potential security threats within the community. The charges demonstrate the legal consequences of accessing prohibited material and violating court orders.
