Western Australian police have released new drone footage as they continue their search for a Victorian man believed to be missing in the state. Serious concerns are held for Samuel Robert Whitsed, a 27-year-old who was last seen walking towards the Bibbulmun Track on Brookton Highway in Armadale on February 18.
Details of the Disappearance
Mr Whitsed was carrying various camping items when he was last spotted. Information uncovered by police indicates that he intended to travel along the popular hiking trail. The search, which initially focused on the east coast, shifted to Western Australia last week after the discovery of an abandoned tent.
Discovery of the Tent
The green tent was found by members of the public at Canning Hut approximately six weeks ago. Police confirmed a link between the tent and Mr Whitsed last week. The hut is located about a 12-kilometre walk from the Brookton Campsite, situated slightly off Brookton Highway in the Helena National Park.
Drone footage released by police on Saturday shows officers searching dense bushland for the missing man. Mr Whitsed is described as being approximately 170 to 180 centimetres tall, with a slim to medium build, short brown hair, a beard, and a moustache.
Last Known Appearance
He was last seen wearing black trousers, a red t-shirt or light-coloured jumper, and slides. Police hold serious concerns for Mr Whitsed’s welfare and urge anyone with information relating to his whereabouts to contact them on 131 444.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for assistance in locating Mr Whitsed. The drone footage provides a bird's-eye view of the challenging terrain that search teams are navigating. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
