Dramatic Police Pursuit Spans Multiple Illawarra Suburbs
A 38-year-old man remains under police guard in hospital following an alleged high-speed police chase that stretched across several Illawarra suburbs on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident began around 2pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2025, when officers from the Southern Region Operations Support Group attempted to stop a hatchback on Lismore Street in Bellambi.
Chase Terminated Over Safety Concerns
According to police reports, the driver failed to stop as directed and instead allegedly initiated a pursuit that would span multiple suburbs. The chase continued through Towradgi and extended south to Albion Park before police made the decision to terminate the pursuit due to mounting safety concerns.
Soon after police called off the chase, the vehicle reportedly hit a kerb and came to an abrupt stop on Tongarra Road in Albion Park.
Foot Chase Leads to Arrest
Police state that the male driver exited the damaged vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, his freedom was short-lived as officers apprehended the 38-year-old man a short time later.
The arrested man was initially taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station for processing before being transferred to hospital for further medical assessment. He currently remains in hospital under police supervision as investigations into the incident continue.
NSW Police have confirmed that their inquiries are ongoing and have not released additional details about potential charges at this stage.
