Perth Man Confronts Additional Charges Over Alleged Bondi Massacre Support

A Perth man accused of expressing support for the Bondi massacre online and facing firearms offences has been hit with fresh charges, with his legal team indicating a renewed attempt to secure bail.

Alleged Social Media Posts Praising Attackers

Martin Thomas Glynn, 39, is alleged to have posted on Instagram his "100 per cent support" for the alleged gunmen on the same day the horror unfolded, December 14. The accused shooters were identified as Islamic State-supporting father-and-son duo Sajid and Naveed Akram.

In the alleged posts, Mr Glynn reportedly wrote his full name and stated the shooters had a "RIGHT TO SELF DEFENCE AGAINST JEWS AND ALL FUTURE JEWS". He is also accused of writing, "What did they expect if they killed 500,000 Palestinians?"

Police Raid Uncovers Firearms and Flags

Following a tip-off from a member of the public, WA Police conducted a raid on Mr Glynn's Yangebup home. During the search, officers seized multiple registered firearms and ammunition. Authorities also allegedly discovered Hamas and Hezbollah flags at the property.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed that Mr Glynn was not previously known to authorities before the public alert about his online comments.

Expanded Charges in Court Appearance

When Mr Glynn appeared before Fremantle Magistrates Court via videolink from Hakea Prison, Magistrate Andrew Matthews noted the defendant now faces two additional charges beyond the initial counts.

The original charges included one count each of conduct intended to racially harass, possessing a prohibited weapon, and failing to store a firearm in compliant storage. The new allegations add charges of possessing firearm technology while not authorised by a licence or permit, plus an additional firearm storage failure charge.

Details of these new allegations, which stem from the same December 23 property search, were not fully disclosed in court.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Application

Mr Glynn was represented by a Legal Aid lawyer who informed the court that the taxpayer-funded service had only recently been granted to her client. She requested an adjournment and flagged a bail application for Mr Glynn's next court appearance scheduled for February 27.

Magistrate Matthews pointed out that bail had been refused previously in this case. The court was told that Mr Glynn will receive legal advice in the interim period before his next hearing.

During the brief court appearance, the accused spoke only to confirm his name and acknowledge his understanding of the new charges. He was not required to enter pleas at this stage.

Operation Dalewood Context

The police raid on Mr Glynn's property was conducted as part of Operation Dalewood, an initiative launched following the worst terrorist attack on Australian soil. The Bondi massacre claimed the lives of 15 victims and prompted heightened security measures across the country.

The case continues to develop as authorities investigate the full extent of Mr Glynn's alleged activities and connections to extremist materials found during the search of his residence.
