Man in court over Mitchell Freeway hit-and-run

A 48-year-old Greenwood man has made his first court appearance over an alleged hit-and-run incident on a busy Perth freeway on-ramp that left a woman with serious injuries.

Court Appearance Following Alleged Freeway Incident

Trent Alan Drewett appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, the 5th of January, 2026, to face charges relating to the December incident. The accused did not enter a plea during this initial hearing.

He is charged with failing to report an incident occasioning grievous bodily harm and failing to stop and ensure assistance after a pedestrian was struck on the Mitchell Freeway on-ramp from Mounts Bay Road.

Details of the Alleged Hit-and-Run

Police prosecutors allege that on December 3, at approximately 3:15pm, Drewett was driving a white Ford Ranger utility vehicle on the on-ramp. It is alleged his vehicle struck a 44-year-old woman who was crossing the road at that location.

The impact caused serious injuries to the woman, who required urgent medical attention. Emergency services transported her to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment following the collision.

Legal Proceedings and Next Steps

During the brief court session, Drewett's legal representative requested an adjournment for the case. The magistrate granted this request, ordering the accused to return to court at a later date.

The matter has been adjourned until April 28, 2026, when Drewett is scheduled to reappear in the Perth Magistrates Court to answer to the charges laid against him.

The case highlights the serious legal consequences drivers can face when involved in an accident, particularly when allegations of failing to stop and report are involved. The court will examine the full circumstances of the incident later this year.
