Father Appears in Court Over Alleged Murder of Partner and Infant Daughter
A father accused of killing his partner and their infant daughter has been formally charged and is now before the courts, with mental health considerations anticipated to play a pivotal role in the legal proceedings. Discovery of the Bodies
Kate Paterson, aged 37, and her 11-month-old daughter April were discovered deceased inside their Belivah property in Logan, located south of Brisbane. The grim discovery occurred at approximately 7:30 AM on March 12. Authorities were initially responding to the residence to notify family members of a separate incident when they stumbled upon the bodies.
Charges and Allegations
Blake Matthew Seers, 38, who was Paterson's partner and the father of the infant, has been charged with two counts of domestic violence-related murder. One of these charges specifically relates to a domestic violence offence against a child. Police allege that Seers fled the property following the incident.
According to witness accounts provided to investigators, a man covered in blood was seen running along a footpath moments before being struck by a vehicle. The collision occurred about 300 meters away from the home, near a supermarket on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road. Seers was hit by a black utility vehicle.

Outside the court, defence solicitor Nicholas Andrews addressed the media, emphasizing the sensitivity of the matter and extending condolences to those affected by the tragedy. Andrews stated, "I can really only say one thing — it's a sensitive matter and our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy." He further highlighted the ongoing legal process and pointed to significant mental health considerations that will be examined as the case progresses.
"At times like this, I need to remind myself there's a job to do," Andrews added. "It's currently progressing through the court and there are some mental health considerations here."

Seers remains hospitalized in serious condition under police guard. He is expected to appear via video link when the matter is mentioned in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court next Wednesday. The deaths have profoundly impacted the local community, with flowers and handwritten tributes left outside the family home and at Windaroo State School, where Paterson worked as a dedicated Year 5 teacher.
Approximately 200 people attended a vigil last week to honor the memories of Kate Paterson and her daughter April. A GoFundMe campaign established for Paterson's family described her as "a loving daughter, sister, mother, partner and friend." Police have confirmed that no domestic violence orders were in place prior to the incident, and investigations into the case remain ongoing.
