Matildas Star Sam Kerr Weds Kristie Mewis in Perth New Year's Celebration
Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis marry in Perth ceremony

Australian sporting icon Sam Kerr has kicked off 2025 by marrying her long-time partner, American footballer Kristie Mewis, in a beautiful private ceremony in Perth. The football power couple exchanged vows in front of approximately 120 guests to celebrate both their union and the new year.

A Swan Valley Celebration to Remember

The wedding was held at a private residence in Perth's picturesque Swan Valley. In a touching moment, the couple's son, Jagger, who was born in May 2024, accompanied Kerr down the aisle. Mewis had previously revealed this plan on a podcast, noting it would be an emotional highlight for attendees.

Stylishly attired for the occasion, Kerr cut a sharp figure in a classic black tuxedo, white shirt, and black bow tie, her hair tied in a low ponytail. Mewis stunned guests in an off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved beaded white gown featuring a sheer, bedazzled layer that draped to the floor, completed with a lace-edged veil.

Matildas and US Teammates Gather for the Big Day

The guest list was a who's who of international football, with a strong contingent from Kerr's Matildas team, including teammates Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy. Mewis, who has earned 53 caps for the United States national team, was also supported by many of her American teammates.

In a personal touch, the couple wrote their own vows for the ceremony. The event was strategically timed to start later in the evening, allowing all guests to welcome the new year together as part of the celebrations.

Looking Ahead: Football, Family, and Future Plans

The wedding concludes a monumental year for the couple, marked by the birth of their first child. However, a traditional honeymoon is on hold due to Kerr's immediate playing commitments with Chelsea FC in London.

Kerr, 32, has recently returned to peak form following a serious knee injury, notably scoring twice in Chelsea's recent 9-1 League Cup victory over Liverpool. Her next club match is scheduled for January 11. On the international stage, she is expected to lead the Matildas on home soil at the Asian Cup in March.

The couple's romance began in 2020, they went public in 2021, and became engaged in late 2023. Reflecting on their relationship, Mewis has previously said of Kerr, "She’s my biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain, all of my crazy antics."
