Koala Launches Tamarama Sofa with Curved Modular Design and Luxe Comfort
Koala Launches Tamarama Sofa with Curved Modular Design

When it comes to sofas, the options have expanded far beyond traditional two, three, or four-seater designs. Today's consumers seek a variety of colours, depths, and configurations that perfectly suit their living spaces. Koala's latest launch meets these demands and more.

Introducing the Tamarama Sofa

The Tamarama Sofa, launching today (May 19), marks Koala's first foray into curved modular shapes. Its versatile configurations offer flexibility, whether you need a cosy corner nook or a statement piece for an open-plan area. Available in a range of machine-washable colours, the sofa blends the ease of coastal living with elevated, contemporary design.

Not only does the sofa enhance any living space aesthetically, but it also introduces Koala's new 'Luxe Comfort' tier. This tier is engineered to deliver the softest, most cloud-like seating experience possible.

Design and Inspiration

Koala's designers, husband-and-wife team James Whitta and Alexandra Owen, bring their expertise from leading Ikea's product design team in Sweden. James Whitta explains that the Tamarama embodies the best of Australian design: relaxed yet elevated living. He notes that the range offers softness both visually and physically, while feeling intentional and refined. The design is not just for beach houses but for stylish living worldwide, from city to coast.

Luxe Comfort Technology

The Tamarama's construction combines Koala's proprietary HyperSoft foam for light, breathable support with a feather-like, cruelty-free alternative fill. This layered comfort system balances immediate softness with long-term structure. Whitta emphasises that the company is obsessive about comfort, and the Tamarama has been engineered to feel indulgent for years to come.

Configurations and Options

The Tamarama comes in single seats, modulars, and armchairs, with two, three, and four-seater options available. Chaise and corner configurations are also offered, along with additional modular extensions that can be added or reconfigured over time. A new curved module, launching post-release, will introduce softer, more sculptural layouts, adding an architectural dimension to the category.

Fabrics and Colours

The sofa is available in two fabrics: a linen-look recycled polyester and a wool-like texture demi-bouclé, both machine washable, water-resistant, and made from recycled materials. Six launch colours reflect the natural Australian landscape, including creams, soft greens, sandy beiges, and a playful 'Aussie Bronze' option. All covers are removable, washable, and replaceable, extending the product's lifespan and allowing customers to refresh their space without replacing the entire sofa.
