Yanchep house explosion injures man, forces evacuations

Emergency services rushed to a residential street in Yanchep on Tuesday night following reports of a powerful explosion that left one man seriously injured and forced the evacuation of neighbouring homes.

Emergency Response to Mariala Vista Blast

The incident occurred at a property on Mariala Vista in Yanchep, a coastal suburb located approximately 60 kilometres north of Perth's CBD. Authorities received emergency calls just after nightfall on Tuesday, 17 December 2025, prompting a swift multi-agency response.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a scene of significant damage. The force of the explosion had heavily damaged the single-storey home, with debris scattered around the property. The sole occupant, a man believed to be in his 30s, was found with serious burn injuries.

Man Rushed to Hospital with Burns

St John WA paramedics treated the man at the scene before urgently transporting him to Fiona Stanley Hospital, a major trauma centre in Murdoch. His condition was described as serious but stable during the transfer. He remains under medical care for his injuries.

As a precaution due to the instability of the structure and potential gas or other hazards, police and firefighters made the decision to evacuate several surrounding properties. Residents were directed to a safe location while specialists worked to make the area secure.

Scene Secured, No Foul Play Suspected

Fire investigators, police, and other relevant authorities remained on site for hours conducting a thorough examination of the wreckage. A WA Police spokesperson later confirmed that no criminality had been identified in relation to the incident, ruling out malicious intent.

The investigation into the exact cause of the blast is ongoing, with initial focus likely on potential gas leaks or accidental ignition of flammable materials. The damaged home has been rendered uninhabitable, and displaced residents were allowed to return only after the scene was declared safe by emergency personnel.

The explosion has shaken the typically quiet Yanchep community, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of home safety checks, particularly regarding gas appliances and electrical systems.
