A 34-year-old woman is facing serious charges after she allegedly crashed a car while intoxicated with three young children as passengers on Christmas Day in Sydney's western suburbs.
Christmas Day Incident in Llandilo
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, at approximately 7:30 pm. Emergency services were called to Ninth Avenue in the suburb of Llandilo following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, paramedics assessed three children who were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. The children, aged 7, 10, and 15, were fortunately found to have escaped physical injury.
Driver's Alleged High-Range Reading
Police officers at the scene conducted a roadside breath test on the female driver, which returned a positive result. The woman was subsequently arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station for further testing.
At the station, a breath analysis allegedly recorded a reading of 0.150. This is three times the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.05 in New South Wales.
Court Appearance and Serious Penalties
The woman was charged with high-range drink driving. Police immediately suspended her driver's licence. She was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Penrith Local Court on Tuesday, January 20.
High-range drink driving is considered a severe offence in NSW. The potential penalties for a first-time offender convicted of this charge can include:
- A fine of up to $3,300
- A maximum prison term of 18 months
- An automatic driver disqualification period of three years
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence, particularly with vulnerable passengers in the vehicle.
