Mother of Missing Melbourne Schoolgirl Bung Siriboon Dies After Cancer Battle
The mother of missing Melbourne schoolgirl Bung Siriboon has tragically passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer. Vannida Siriboon, affectionately known as Nid, died last Monday, as confirmed by her husband and Bung's step-father, Fred Pattison.
Pattison shared the heartbreaking news through a GoFundMe page established by close family friend Dyamai Hillard. In a poignant message, he expressed profound sorrow and gratitude for the support received during this difficult time.
Heartbreaking Announcement and Family's Gratitude
"With great sorrow and sadness, I would like to inform you my wife has passed," Pattison wrote. "Thank you all, with all our love and gratitude, for the help you shared. Bless you all. One journey comes to an end and another begins."
The fundraising campaign has raised over $13,000 to support Fred Pattison and Pang, Bung's sister, during this period of immense loss.
Medical Diagnosis and Palliative Care
Nid was diagnosed with primary central nervous system lymphoma in May 2024. Earlier this month, it was revealed that she had entered palliative care. According to family friend Dyamai Hillard, Nid had been living in Thailand while Fred remained in Australia to work, adding complexity to her final months.
Unresolved Mystery of Bung's Disappearance
Tragically, Nid died without ever discovering what happened to her youngest daughter, Siriyakorn 'Bung' Siriboon, who vanished 15 years ago. Bung Siriboon has been missing since June 2, 2011, when she disappeared while walking to school in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
The 13-year-old left her family home on Elsie Street in Boronia around 8:25 am and was last seen walking towards Albert Avenue. She never arrived at school and failed to return home later that day. Despite extensive investigations and public appeals, Bung has not been seen or heard from since her disappearance.
Ongoing Search and Reward
A $1 million reward remains active for any information that could shed light on Bung's fate. The case continues to be a haunting mystery for the community and law enforcement, with the family's pain now compounded by Nid's passing.
The dual tragedies of a missing child and a mother's death without closure highlight the profound and lasting impact of such cases on families. The community's support through fundraising efforts demonstrates ongoing solidarity with the Siriboon-Pattison family during this exceptionally difficult time.
