Emergency services, including the bomb squad, raced to a residential property north of Perth following a significant explosion late on Tuesday night.
Emergency Response to Mariala Vista Incident
The incident occurred at a home on Mariala Vista in the coastal suburb of Yanchep. Authorities were alerted to reports of an explosion at the property just before midnight. WA Police confirmed that the bomb response unit was among the emergency crews dispatched to the scene.
Injuries and Immediate Aftermath
A man aged in his 30s, who was inside the home at the time of the blast, sustained burn injuries. He was treated at the scene before being transported to Fiona Stanley Hospital. Police have stated his injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
The force of the explosion caused significant damage to the structure of the home. As a precautionary measure, nearby residents were evacuated from their properties while emergency crews secured the area and assessed the situation.
Police Investigation and Scene
Firefighters remained on site dealing with the aftermath. In an official statement, WA Police indicated that the initial investigation has not found evidence of criminal activity. "No criminality has been identified in relation to this incident," a police spokesperson said.
The cause of the explosion is now under investigation by relevant authorities. The scene on Mariala Vista was cordoned off as examinations continued into Wednesday.
