A Canberra man has achieved an extraordinary weight loss transformation, dropping 106 kilograms without resorting to weight loss surgery or injectable medications. Stephen Cenatiempo, who once weighed 200 kilograms, now tips the scales at a healthy 94 kilograms after completely overhauling his lifestyle.
The Turning Point
Stephen’s journey began in 2020 when he realised his weight was severely impacting his health and quality of life. He decided to make a change without medical interventions, focusing instead on sustainable habits. “I didn't want a quick fix. I wanted to change my relationship with food and exercise forever,” he said.
Dietary Changes
Stephen adopted a calorie-controlled diet rich in whole foods, cutting out processed items, sugary drinks, and excessive carbohydrates. He worked with a dietitian to create a meal plan that ensured he got adequate nutrition while creating a calorie deficit. “It wasn't about deprivation; it was about learning to eat properly,” he explained.
Exercise Routine
Starting with short walks, Stephen gradually increased his activity levels. He now exercises daily, incorporating strength training, cardio, and flexibility work. “I started with just 10 minutes a day and built up from there. Consistency was key,” he said.
Mental Health and Support
Stephen credits his success to a strong support network, including family, friends, and online communities. He also focused on mental health, using meditation and journaling to overcome emotional eating. “The mental aspect is just as important as the physical,” he noted.
Overcoming Challenges
There were setbacks along the way, including plateaus and moments of doubt. Stephen learned to view these as part of the process rather than failures. “Every setback taught me something about myself and my habits,” he said.
