Tinnie of the Week: Beerfarm's Sour Cherry Gelato Imperial Stout Review
Beerfarm's Sour Cherry Gelato Imperial Stout Review

There are plenty of pros and cons to the rapid onset of the winter months. That first tracksuit pant day, the smell of wood fire at night and the arrival of imperial stouts to keep beer drinkers warm and toasty are just some of the highlights.

But there are downsides too — trips to the beach hit different in April, and those who love ice cream may find it a touch too cold to enjoy their favourite sweet treat.

That’s why this latest offering from Beerfarm ticks all the right boxes for fans of winter beers and sweet desserts. Their limited release collaboration with Mai Tardi Premium Gelato is a sour cherry gelato imperial stout.

Aroma and Appearance

When you first crack the tinnie, you’ll smell those sour cherry notes (the Amarena cherries were flown in from Italy to make the gelato that went into this) coupled with hearty coffee and dark chocolate aromas. It pours a dark brown, almost black hue with a frothy light-brown head.

Flavour Profile

When you take your first sip, you’ll taste those cherry flavours intermingled with the rich coffee-driven stout base. The cherries and coffee actually work together really well, the sourness of the cherries and the acidity of the coffee creating a delicious flavour profile that counter balances the richness of the tinnie.

There’s even a bit of mascarpone thrown into the mix to dial the Italian flavours up to 11, while the 8.5 per cent ABV helps it pack a punch. It’s a luxurious treat and one that’s perfect for a cold evening in front of a fire.

Verdict

Should you share it? Nope, keep this treat for yourself. What’s the damage? $35 for a four-pack.
