Emergency services rushed to a remote South Coast bush track in the early hours of Monday morning after a tragic collision claimed the life of a young woman and left two men hospitalised.
Crash Details on Remote Forest Track
Police were called to Mount Dromedary Trail in Central Tilba, approximately 20 kilometres south of Narooma, at around 12:30am on Monday, January 5. The incident occurred just after the intersection with Never Never Road, deep within the Bodalla State Forest.
According to initial reports from the South Coast Police District, a ute carrying three people—a 32-year-old male driver, a 30-year-old male passenger, and the woman who died—was travelling down the track when it crashed and rolled. A hatchback, driven by another 32-year-old man, then collided with the overturned vehicle.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Due to the extremely remote location, which is only accessible via steep dirt roads approximately 5km from Central Tilba, emergency services did not arrive on the scene until after 2am, despite being notified around half an hour past midnight.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both drivers for minor injuries before taking them to Moruya Hospital for mandatory testing. The male passenger from the ute was also transported to Moruya Hospital for further treatment. Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both vehicles were seized by police for a detailed forensic examination, and a crime scene was established. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
Ongoing Police Investigation
As of 1pm on Monday, police from the South Coast District and specialist NSW Crash Scene Investigators remained at the location conducting a forensic examination. Mount Dromedary Trail was closed to the public while the investigation continued.
The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been formally released, although police indicated an announcement was expected later in the afternoon. The names of the other individuals involved have also not been made public.
This tragic incident on a secluded South Coast track has commenced a complex police investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
