Emergency services rushed to a serious collision involving two trucks on a major Hunter Valley highway on Friday afternoon, leaving both drivers hospitalised.

The incident occurred on the New England Highway at Belford, approximately 15 kilometres south of Singleton, just after midday on December 5, 2025. Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to reports of a collision in the eastbound lanes.

Upon arrival, crews found two trucks that had been involved in the crash. The drivers, two men aged 25 and 71, were treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to John Hunter Hospital.

Drivers in Serious Condition

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed both men were admitted in a serious but stable condition. The exact circumstances leading to the collision are now under investigation by officers from the Hunter Valley Police District.

A third vehicle, a Ford Ranger towing a caravan driven by a 76-year-old woman, was also present at the scene. Police stated her vehicle was not directly involved in the crash. The woman was not injured but was taken to Cessnock Hospital for mandatory testing as part of standard procedures.

Police Appeal and Road Toll Context

This crash adds to a grim year on NSW roads. According to the state's transport department, there have been 331 deaths on NSW roads so far this year, a figure slightly higher than the same period last year.

With the holiday period approaching, authorities have announced a double-demerit enforcement operation will be in effect from December 24 until January 4, 2026, in a bid to improve road safety.
