Perth's Robin Styles Wins Mazda's Top Tech Crown for Second Time
Perth Technician Repeats as Mazda's Top Tech in Australia

In a remarkable display of skill, a Perth-based automotive technician has been crowned the best in the country for the second time in three years. Robin Styles from Osborne Park Mazda has taken out Mazda Australia's prestigious 2025 MazTech National Final, cementing his status as a leading expert in the brand's complex vehicle systems.

Elite Competition for Master Technicians

The MazTech competition is Mazda's flagship technical skills contest, designed to identify the highest-performing Master Technicians across its entire Australian dealer network. All entrants are qualified Mazda Master Technicians who have completed the rigorous Mazda Masters Technical Training Program.

State-based heats were held throughout the year, with the eight state champions advancing to the national final held at Mazda Australia's head office in early December. Notably, three of the eight finalists, including the second and third placegetters, were graduates of Mazda Australia's own Apprentice Program.

A Day of Gruelling Diagnostic Challenges

The eight finalists faced a full day of intensive, real-world diagnostic tests. The challenges were inspired by actual customer cases, designed to replicate complex faults a technician might encounter on any given day.

Competitors rotated through eight technical stations, each presenting advanced diagnostic and repair scenarios. Among the replicated faults were a BT-50 ute that refused to start, simulating the effects of a lightning strike, and a CX-30 SUV with multiple electrical faults on the driver's side—a common issue found in vehicles after collision repairs.

Styles Secures Victory, Informing Future Training

After the highly technical contest, Robin Styles emerged victorious once again. Andrew Dilley from Ringwood Mazda in Victoria secured second place, while Jamieson Galbraith from Aspley Mazda in Queensland came third.

Established by Mazda Corporation in the early 2000s, the MazTech competition is a global initiative. A Mazda Australia spokesperson explained that it aims to improve service capabilities and strengthen professional motivation among technical staff. The program is a cornerstone of Mazda's technical excellence framework, providing valuable insights into the competency levels across its network. The findings from the competition directly help shape Mazda's future technical training priorities and needs.

This win highlights the incredible depth of skill required to service modern vehicles, which can contain around 30,000 individual parts and are filled with sophisticated electronic systems. For Mazda owners in Western Australia, having a technician of Robin Styles' calibre locally is a significant assurance of quality service and repair expertise.
