Hyundai has officially launched its latest electric vehicle contender onto Australian shores, with the new ELEXIO medium SUV set to arrive in dealerships over the coming weeks. Priced from $59,990 drive-away, the battery-powered model slots into the Korean brand's expanding EV lineup between the KONA Electric and the IONIQ 5.
A Tech-Focused Family SUV
The 2026 Hyundai ELEXIO Elite launches with a single, well-equipped trim grade designed for families. Power comes from a single electric motor producing 160kW of power and 310Nm of torque, drawing energy from a substantial 88kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a claimed WLTP driving range of 546 kilometres on a single charge, with a fast-charge capability that can replenish the battery in approximately 38 minutes.
Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist and futuristic aesthetic. A spokesperson for Hyundai Australia highlighted the "sleek, minimalist layout" combined with "generous interior space and intuitive technology." The centrepiece is a massive 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display that runs the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) with Connect-C. A head-up display is also standard, projecting key information directly into the driver's line of sight.
Engineered for Australian Roads
In a significant move for local suitability, Hyundai's engineering team collaborated with its Australian tuning specialists to develop a bespoke ride and handling package. The program involved evaluating and adjusting various suspension components, including springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars.
"This led to the development of bespoke Australian suspension and steering tunes, to best suit our broad spectrum of uniquely challenging road conditions," the company spokesperson confirmed. This localisation effort aims to ensure the ELEXIO delivers a comfortable and confident drive across the country's diverse highway and regional road networks.
Practicality and Peace of Mind
The ELEXIO is positioned as a practical family vehicle. It offers a 506-litre cargo area, which expands to a substantial 1540 litres with the rear seatbacks folded down. Buyers can choose from five exterior body colours and an interior appointed with leather in either black or grey. Front seats are both heated and ventilated, and the vehicle includes dual wireless phone chargers.
Hyundai backs the ELEXIO with its strong warranty package, including a seven-year/unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty. The vehicle also comes with myHyundaiCare, which provides a Genuine Service Plan with fixed pricing, Lifetime Premium Roadside Support, and satellite navigation updates when serviced through the Hyundai network.
Safety is comprehensive, featuring nine airbags and a suite of Hyundai's advanced driver-assistance systems. This includes Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Highway Driving Assist 2, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, and a full array of forward and lane-keeping aids.
The arrival of the ELEXIO in early 2026 provides Australian consumers with another compelling mid-size electric SUV option, combining long-range capability, extensive technology, and specific tuning for local conditions.
