Ford Issues Urgent Recall for Ranger and Everest Models Over Software Safety Concerns

Ford has initiated an urgent recall for two of its popular car models, the 2022 Ford Ranger and Ford Everest, due to significant safety risks stemming from software issues. The recall affects more than 200 vehicles, with authorities warning of potential accidents that could lead to injury or death.

Details of the Safety Defect

The Department of Transport has identified a critical defect caused by a software problem in these models. When the battery level falls below a specific threshold, the transmission may automatically shift into park while the vehicle is moving at speeds under 6km/h. This unexpected action can result in a sudden stop without the rear brake lights illuminating as intended.

A sudden stop at low speeds, combined with the failure of brake lights to activate, significantly increases the risk of collisions, endangering both vehicle occupants and other road users. The defect has prompted immediate action from Ford to address the issue and ensure public safety.

Recall and Repair Process

Ford is set to contact all affected owners in writing, requesting they schedule an appointment at their preferred Ford Authorised Dealership. Repairs will be performed free of charge to rectify the software flaw and prevent any potential incidents.

This recall follows a similar one issued in August 2023, which impacted over 4,000 Ford Everest and Ranger models from 2021 to 2023. Owners are advised that even if repairs were conducted under the previous recall, their vehicles may still require additional rectification to fully resolve the issue.

Previous Recall and Ongoing Concerns

The earlier recall in 2023 highlighted ongoing software-related problems in Ford's lineup, emphasizing the need for thorough inspections and updates. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed and proactive about vehicle safety.

For more information or to check if their vehicle is affected, owners can contact Ford directly. Ensuring timely repairs is crucial to mitigate risks and maintain road safety standards.
