Suspect arrested after fatal Logan park shooting

A dramatic police manhunt across Logan has ended with the arrest of a suspect who allegedly tried to hide underwater in a creek after a fatal park shooting south of Brisbane.

Fatal shooting in suburban park

Police were called to Hugh Muntz Park in Logan following reports of gunfire just before 10.40pm on Tuesday night. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 35-year-old man with a critical gunshot wound.

Despite immediate efforts by police and paramedics to treat the Bahrs Scrub local at the scene, the man tragically succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead soon after.

Dramatic chase and underwater capture

Investigators quickly began searching for a stolen white Kia Stonic sedan, fitted with stolen registration plates, which was seen leaving the area. Police later spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it using a tyre deflation device.

The car continued for a short distance before being found abandoned at the intersection of Hope Island Road and Helensvale Road. A man was seen fleeing the vehicle into nearby scrubland.

The police dog squad was deployed and conducted a thorough search of the area. In a remarkable turn, they located a 22-year-old man from Beenleigh hiding underwater among the reeds near Saltwater Park.

Weapons recovered and appeal for information

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Police confirmed that ammunition was found on the man, and a firearm was also located nearby.

Authorities are now urging anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the Logan area around the time of the incident, to come forward and contact police.

Investigations into the fatal shooting are continuing as detectives work to piece together the exact circumstances that led to the violent confrontation in the suburban park.
