Perth residents are about to experience a significant taste of summer as the city braces for its hottest day in eight months. The mercury is forecast to soar to a scorching 37 degrees Celsius on Monday, marking the start of a run of sweltering days.
A Long-Awaited Summer Sizzle
The last time Perth felt heat this intense was back on March 29, when the temperature climbed slightly higher to 37.8C. Meteorologist Angus Hines confirmed that the city is finally seeing a consistent warm-up after a year of weather fluctuations.
"This weekend, you will notice the weekend getting warmer, with the peak on Monday," Mr Hines said. "It’s starting to feel like summer. We have had a whole lot of ups and downs this year, and it definitely hasn’t been as sunnier as previous years, but this time of year you do start to see the temperature getting warmer."

The heat will build gradually over the weekend, offering perfect conditions for beachgoers and barbecue enthusiasts. Saturday promises blue skies and a top of 28C, with things heating up further on Sunday to reach 33C.
While Monday will be the peak at 37C, the sunny skies are expected to persist into Tuesday, though it will be a milder 30C. The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued a separate heatwave warning for the Kimberley region, which is set to experience severe conditions.
Staying Safe in the Heat
With the sudden spike in temperatures, it's crucial to be prepared. Here are some essential tips for managing the heat:
- Check that air-conditioners and fans are working and set to the ‘cool’ setting.
- Keep your home cool by closing windows and shutting all blinds and curtains.
- Stock up on food to avoid going out in the peak heat and take care with food storage.
- Keep electronic devices like mobile phones fully charged.
- Regularly check on family, friends, and neighbours, especially the elderly.
If you have a medical condition, it is vital to speak with your doctor about the best ways to stay cool. Those who have fluid intake restrictions should also consult their GP for advice specific to hot weather.
