Perth Shivers Through Coldest Morning of 2026 as Rain Looms Before Sunny ANZAC Weekend
Perth residents were greeted with a sharp and unexpected chill on Wednesday morning, as the city recorded its coldest start to the year 2026. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures plummeted to a brisk 7.6 degrees Celsius at 6am, with the apparent temperature feeling even colder at 6.7 degrees Celsius. This provided a frosty wake-up call for early risers embarking on morning walks or their daily commutes.
The expected overnight minimum of 9 degrees Celsius was already surpassed by this early morning dip, making conditions significantly colder than initially predicted. Despite this chilly beginning, the city is set to enjoy a clear and sunny day with a forecast maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, offering some relief from the morning's bite.
Wet Weather Ahead Before Weekend Sunshine
The cool snap arrives just ahead of a wetter conclusion to the working week, with rain expected to roll into Perth. Showers are forecast to hit on Thursday, with a very high chance of rainfall, most likely occurring in the morning hours. Temperatures will remain mild during this period, with a maximum of 21 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 14 degrees Celsius.
Wet conditions are anticipated to linger into Friday, featuring a medium chance of showers throughout both the morning and afternoon. The temperature is set to hover within a similar range, reaching a top of 21 degrees Celsius and dipping to 13 degrees Celsius overnight.
Sunny Skies for ANZAC Day Commemorations
Looking ahead to the weekend, weather conditions are expected to improve just in time for Anzac Day commemorations on Saturday. Perth is forecast to enjoy sunny skies and dry weather, with a maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a cool morning low of 10 degrees Celsius. Sunday is also predicted to be sunny, with temperatures climbing slightly to a high of 25 degrees Celsius and a low of 11 degrees Celsius.
However, this reprieve may be short-lived, as rain is forecast to return early next week. Showers are expected on Monday, along with the possibility of a thunderstorm, before conditions partially clear to mostly sunny skies with temperatures ranging from 13 to 24 degrees Celsius. Tuesday is predicted to be partly cloudy with similar mild temperatures.
This weather update highlights the unpredictable nature of Perth's climate, with residents advised to prepare for fluctuating conditions as they plan their activities for the coming days.
