Emergency services in Far North Queensland executed a dramatic and swift water rescue on Monday afternoon, saving a man who became trapped in his motorhome by rapidly rising floodwaters.
A Race Against the Rising River
The urgent situation unfolded near the Barron River at Redlynch, on the outskirts of Cairns, just after 3:30 PM on Monday, April 8. A man in his 60s was inside his motorhome when intense localised rainfall caused the river to swell quickly, surrounding his vehicle with fast-moving water and cutting off any safe escape route.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) were immediately alerted to the life-threatening scenario. Crews from the Cairns North Fire and Rescue Station, equipped for swift water operations, rushed to the scene. They were joined by personnel from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and the Queensland Police Service (QPS), forming a multi-agency response team.
