A quiet Hunter Valley neighbourhood has been rocked by tragedy after a 39-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead in her own home, leaving a family "absolutely shattered" and a community searching for answers.
The victim, identified as Rhukaya Lake, was found with fatal gunshot wounds at her Metford residence on Monday evening. Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting, but despite their efforts, Ms Lake could not be saved.
"This is an absolutely tragic incident that has left a family devastated and a community in shock," a police spokesperson told reporters. "We are treating this as a homicide and are pursuing several lines of inquiry."
Community in Mourning
Neighbours in the typically peaceful Metford street described the scene as "terrifying" and "unbelievable," with many expressing their heartbreak for the victim's family. The tight-knit community has been left reeling from the violent nature of the incident.
