A desperate marine search is continuing into the New Year for a teenage boy missing after a fatal boating accident on Sydney's northern beaches.
New Year's Eve Tragedy Unfolds
The incident occurred just after 11:30am on Wednesday, December 31st, near the prominent Barrenjoey Headland at Palm Beach. A vessel carrying the 14-year-old boy and two men capsized in the waters, triggering an immediate emergency response.
Surf lifesavers were quickly on the scene, pulling one man from the water. Despite the urgent efforts of paramedics who administered treatment at the scene, the man could not be revived. He has not yet been formally identified by authorities.
Rescue and Search Operation Intensifies
A second man managed to scramble onto nearby rocks in the aftermath of the capsize. He was subsequently winched to safety by the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter and is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
The focus has now shifted to an extensive air and sea search for the missing 14-year-old passenger. Multiple agencies are involved in the operation, including the Marine Area Command, PolAir, and Marine Rescue NSW. Crews are combing the area around Palm Beach and Broken Bay.
Appeal for Public Information
Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have any information about the incident or the missing teen, to come forward immediately. Investigators are particularly interested in any dashcam or boat footage from the Palm Beach vicinity around midday on New Year's Eve.
Anyone with information should contact Northern Beaches police or call Crime Stoppers anonymously. The community is being asked to assist authorities in any way possible during this critical search.
