The body of a man missing for four days has been discovered in the waters of the Hume Weir in southern New South Wales, concluding a major multi-agency search.
Boating trip turns to tragedy
The 64-year-old man was on a boat with two children on Tuesday, two days before Christmas, when he entered the water at the Hume Weir near Table Top. He failed to resurface, prompting an emergency call to authorities around 6.15pm.
Police swiftly responded to the scene and successfully rescued the two children from the vessel. Both children were confirmed to be uninjured following the ordeal. However, the man could not be located at that time.
Extensive search operation launched
A large-scale search effort was immediately launched, involving NSW Police, Fire and Rescue crews, the State Emergency Service (SES), and the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA). The teams combed the area for several days in an attempt to find the missing man.
The search came to a sombre conclusion on Saturday morning. At approximately 11.30am, four days after the man disappeared, a body was discovered in the water.
Body believed to be missing man
While formal identification procedures are still to be completed, police have stated they believe the body to be that of the 64-year-old man who went missing on Tuesday.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner as investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident continue. Police have asked anyone with information to come forward and contact them.
