Sydney man charged over Hurstville assault outside hotel

A 34-year-old man is facing a serious charge after an alleged violent confrontation outside a Sydney hotel left another man fighting for his life in hospital.

Altercation Over Noise Turns Violent

The incident unfolded on Forest Road in Hurstville, in Sydney's south, at approximately 10pm on Friday night. Police will allege the 49-year-old victim, a patron at the Golden Tiger hotel, went outside to speak to a motorcyclist about the noise level of the vehicle.

It is alleged the motorcyclist then moved the vehicle before assaulting the man, leaving him with critical head injuries. The assailant then reportedly rode away from the scene. Authorities have stated the two men are not believed to have known each other prior to the encounter.

Victim in Induced Coma Following Emergency Response

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance arrived at the location shortly after the incident to find the injured man in a stable condition, despite his serious wounds. He was rushed to St George Hospital for emergency treatment.

Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors at the hospital made the decision to place the 49-year-old into an induced coma. He remains in a critical condition as medical staff work to save his life.

Arrest and Charges Laid

Following an investigation by detectives from St George Police Area Command, officers arrested a 34-year-old man at a home in Condell Park at about 3:30pm on Saturday.

The arrested man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was formally charged. The specific charge laid is one count of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.

Police refused bail for the accused. He is scheduled to appear before the Bail Division Court on Sunday to answer the serious allegation.

Local police have urged anyone with further information about the altercation, who has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
