Record 14,000 Bikers Transform Newcastle for 48th Annual Toy Run
Record 14,000 Bikers in Newcastle Toy Run for Kids

Newcastle's streets roared to life with festive spirit this weekend as a sea of motorcycles, many ridden by reindeer, Grinches, and 'bogan Santas', took over the city for a major charity event.

A Record-Breaking Ride for a Good Cause

More than 14,000 motorbikes participated in the 48th annual Bikers for Kids Toy Run on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The massive convoy rolled from Stockton to Carrington, turning heads and spreading Christmas cheer with its colourful 'Aussie Christmas' theme. Event treasurer Stephen Meek hailed the day as a phenomenal success, anticipating it would set a new record for the iconic fundraiser.

"It was a phenomenal day all round and everything ran smoothly," Mr Meek said. While official counts are still being finalised, early estimates are impressive. Over 5000 individual gifts were loaded into donation trucks, and more than $20,000 in cash was donated by riders and spectators alike.

Festive Fun for the Whole Family

The spectacle wasn't just on the road. Thousands of locals lined the route to watch everything from vintage 1940s machines to mini Honda Groms rumble past. The finale at Connelly Park in Carrington transformed into a community festival, featuring camel rides, market stalls, food vendors, and a live performance by local rock band The Years.

The creative costumes were a major highlight. Alongside traditional Santas and reindeer, riders embraced the Aussie theme with gnarly mullets and Santas in classic 'flannie' shirts. One winning family entry saw a sports bike covered in Christmas baubles, with the riders' helmets transformed into giant baubles complete with metal hangers on top.

Supporting Families in Need Across the Hunter

At its heart, the Toy Run is a major charitable drive. All donations of new toys, books, and gifts, as well as the funds raised, go directly to support The Salvation Army's Doorways Christmas Appeal. This vital program provides food hampers, gifts, and essential supplies to disadvantaged families across the Hunter region, ensuring they can share in the Christmas joy.

Mr Meek also noted the incredible community support along the streets and expressed relief that the event dodged recent severe weather. The 48-year-old Toy Run continues to stand as one of Australia's longest-running and most beloved charity motorcycle events, uniting riders from all walks of life for a common, generous cause.
