Newborn Discovered at South Tuggeranong Fire Station
Emergency services rushed to a south Canberra fire station on Thursday morning after the shocking discovery of an abandoned newborn baby. The incident occurred at the South Tuggeranong ACT Fire & Rescue station in Conder, located at the roundabout of Tharwa Drive and Drakeford Drive.
Authorities were alerted at approximately 7:20 am on Thursday, November 27, 2025. ACT Ambulance Service paramedics promptly transported the infant to a nearby hospital for a full medical assessment.
Health and Welfare of Mother a Primary Concern
A police spokesperson confirmed the baby had no obvious injuries and was estimated to have been born within the last 24 hours. While the child is now receiving appropriate care, the police force has expressed that its sole concern is for the health and welfare of the baby's mother.
The spokesperson made a direct plea, stating, "She should attend a hospital, ring an ambulance or contact police." The public was also urged to assist, with police adding, "If you think a friend or family member may be the mother - please encourage them to seek medical help as soon as possible."
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Information
ACT Police have launched an investigation to identify the mother and are appealing to the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in anyone who may have witnessed activity near the fire station overnight or in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Investigators have asked that anyone with dashcam footage of people or vehicles in the vicinity of the South Tuggeranong fire station during that critical period come forward to assist with their inquiries.
