The much-anticipated reopening of the Murray Library has taken place, marking the end of a two-month closure for a significant interior transformation.
A Community Celebration for a Fresh New Space
To officially welcome residents back, a special community event is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 9am to 11am. The festivities will feature children's entertainment, a petting zoo, and coffee and ice-cream vans, offering a perfect opportunity for locals to explore the extensive upgrades.
The comprehensive refurbishment, valued at $200,000, was made possible entirely by a grant from the Community Bank Pinjarra. The project has delivered a full interior refresh, featuring an improved layout, updated furnishings, and modernised spaces designed to better serve the community's needs. A key focus was on enhancing accessibility features to ensure the library is welcoming for all.
Investing in the Heart of the Community
Shire President Douglas McLarty expressed his delight at the new chapter for the beloved institution. He stated the upgrades ensure the library continues to grow alongside the community, providing a vibrant, accessible, and adaptable hub for people of all ages.
"Our new look reflects who we are today: a modern, community-focused library that celebrates learning, creativity and connection," Mr. McLarty said.
The funding highlights the core mission of the Community Bank Pinjarra model. Chair Shane Rowley emphasised that the project exemplifies the bank's commitment to reinvesting locally generated profits back into community initiatives.
"This project is only possible thanks to the continued support of our customers who choose to bank with us," Mr. Rowley noted. "The Community Bank model is unique as locally generated profits are reinvested back into local projects, rather than leaving the community."
A New Identity for a Modern Library
Alongside the physical changes, the library has also adopted new branding to complement its contemporary identity. The overhaul includes:
- A complete interior refresh and improved layout.
- New, updated furnishings throughout.
- Enhanced accessibility features for all visitors.
- Modernised spaces designed to better support residents.
The successful reopening underscores the power of local partnership in enhancing vital public infrastructure, ensuring the Murray Library remains a central and cherished place for learning and connection for years to come.
