A man has tragically died following a house fire in the coastal town of Ocean Grove on Sunday morning.
Emergency Response to Blazing Home
Emergency services were called to the scene on Shell Road just after 9:30 am on Sunday, March 17. Multiple fire crews from the Country Fire Authority (CFA) rushed to the property after receiving reports of a structure well alight.
Firefighters arrived to find a single-storey weatherboard home engulfed in flames. They worked quickly to bring the significant blaze under control, but the fire had already caused extensive damage to the building.
Tragic Discovery Inside
Once the fire was extinguished, crews conducted a search of the charred remains. Inside the home, they discovered the body of a man. Police have confirmed the death is being treated as non-suspicious.
The man is yet to be formally identified, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by fire authorities and Victoria Police.
Community and Aftermath
The incident has shocked the quiet Bellarine Peninsula community. Shell Road was temporarily closed to traffic while emergency services managed the scene and conducted their initial investigations.
CFA crews remained on site for several hours after extinguishing the flames to ensure the fire was completely out and to begin their probe into its origin. A sombre mood settled over the area as neighbours came to terms with the tragic event in their midst.
This fatal fire serves as a stark reminder of the devastating speed and danger of house fires. Authorities often emphasise the importance of working smoke alarms and having a fire escape plan.
