Lifeline South Coast Calls for Volunteers

Lifeline South Coast Issues Urgent Call for Community Volunteers

Lifeline South Coast has launched a significant recruitment drive, appealing to residents across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions to step forward as volunteers. The organisation, which provides essential suicide prevention, crisis support, and community services, is experiencing growing demand for its programs. This has created an immediate need for dedicated individuals to join their teams and help sustain these life-saving operations.

Retail Volunteer Positions Available Across Multiple Locations

The charity currently has openings for retail volunteers at its Lifeline Shops in Corrimal, Dapto, Nowra, and Wollongong. These roles encompass various front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities, including customer service, cashier support, merchandising, restocking shelves, and accepting and sorting donations. Importantly, no prior retail experience is necessary, as comprehensive training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers.

Volunteers are integrated into friendly and inclusive teams, with flexible scheduling options to accommodate individual availability. "Every volunteer shift directly supports our ability to deliver life-saving services in the community," emphasised retail area manager Alicia Ferderer. "Whether someone enjoys working with people in a retail environment or prefers a more active, behind-the-scenes role, there is a place for them within our volunteer teams."

Logistics Roles Critical for Warehouse Operations

In addition to retail positions, Lifeline South Coast is actively recruiting logistics volunteers to work as dock assistants at its book-sorting warehouse in Wollongong. These hands-on roles are vital for maintaining the smooth operation of Lifeline Shops, ensuring they remain well-stocked and functional.

Key duties for logistics volunteers include:

  • Assisting on the loading dock and moving pallets
  • Performing general warehousing tasks
  • Accepting and sorting donated books
  • Preparing stock for distribution to retail outlets
  • Operating pedestrian forklifts and trolley jacks

To facilitate participation, onsite parking is available at the warehouse, and full training is provided for all equipment and procedures. This makes the roles accessible to individuals without prior logistics experience.

Making a Tangible Difference in the Community

Volunteering with Lifeline South Coast offers more than just practical experience; it provides a meaningful opportunity to connect with others, give back to the local community, and contribute to an organisation dedicated to making a real difference. The work of volunteers directly funds critical services that support vulnerable individuals across the region.

Community members interested in volunteering are encouraged to submit an expression of interest via the Lifeline South Coast website. For more information, visit lifelinesouthcoast.org.au/volunteer.
