A young girl had a miraculous escape after a car smashed through the wall of her family home in Baldivis in a shocking early-morning incident that has left the community shaken.
Miracle Escape for Sleeping Child
A nine-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after a white Toyota Camry sedan ploughed through a fence and into her parents' house on Poorinda Lane around 1.40am on Sunday. The vehicle demolished the kitchen and came to a stop with kitchen cabinets, an island bench, and an oven pushed up against the wall, blocking the door to the child's bedroom.
The girl, who was asleep at the time, was forced to climb out of a window to safety. She was not physically injured in the terrifying ordeal.
Driver Faces Serious Charges
Police have charged a 27-year-old man in connection with the crash. He is facing allegations of driving under the influence and is also charged with failing to stop after a traffic incident where property damage occurred.
Neighbours reported being woken by the loud crash and said they saw the driver walk away from the scene before emergency services arrived. The man was later taken to Rockingham Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Homeowner's Terrifying Account
The homeowner, Michael, who did not wish to disclose his surname, had been in the kitchen just moments before the car came crashing in. He described hearing the car's engine revving as it came down Daisy Lane, a laneway that ends opposite the rear of his property on Cappuccino Drive.
"I heard a loud crash," Michael said. "So I ran out, knowing it was close, but I had no idea it was in our kitchen. And when I saw the car, I yelled out a few expletives and then ran back for the phone to start calling the emergency services."
The incident caused significant structural damage to the family home. The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the exact circumstances of the crash.
