WA Police hunt for scooter rider after three deliberate Huntingdale fires
Suspicious fires lit in Huntingdale bushland

Detectives in Western Australia are urgently appealing for public help as they investigate three deliberately lit scrub fires in a Perth suburb last week.

Fires Ignited Along Bushland Trail

WA Police confirmed that the three separate blazes were started in bushland in Huntingdale in the early hours of Thursday, December 11. The incidents occurred around 12.50am along a trail situated between Todd Place and Shearwater Way.

Authorities have classified all three fires as suspicious and believe they were lit deliberately. The quick response from firefighters prevented a more serious situation from developing.

Swift Response Prevents Major Damage

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) crews attended the scene and managed to successfully extinguish the fires before they could spread further into the surrounding bushland. Their actions also ensured that nearby homes were not threatened by the flames.

This prompt intervention likely prevented significant property damage and potential danger to residents in the Huntingdale area.

Key Person of Interest Sought

Investigators have released an image and are particularly keen to speak with one individual who was in the area at the time. Police believe a person seen riding a scooter in the vicinity may hold crucial information that could assist the investigation.

While this person is not necessarily a suspect, detectives are confident they may have seen something important related to the fires.

Substantial Reward Offered for Information

In a significant move to encourage public cooperation, police have highlighted that rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of the person responsible for the arson attacks.

Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or mobile phone video is urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately on 1800 333 000 or to submit details via the Crime Stoppers website. All information can be provided anonymously.
