Perth Hills Bushfire Emergency: Evacuations Ordered as Blaze Threatens Lives

Residents in parts of Darlington and Helena Valley have been issued an urgent emergency warning to evacuate immediately as an out of control bushfire burns at the foot of the Perth Hills. The blaze, which is not contained or controlled, is posing a direct threat to lives and homes in the region.

Critical Evacuation Zones and Road Closures

An emergency warning is in effect for people living in the area bounded by Approach Road, Coulston Road, Darlington Road, Beenong Road, Glen Road, Victor Road, and Clayton Road. Authorities have instructed residents to leave now, as the fire is moving in a north-easterly direction.

Clayton Road has been closed to traffic, and firefighting crews are actively battling the blaze with support from waterbombers. Emergency WA has stated it is too dangerous for residents to return to the area if they are not currently at home.

Watch and Act Alert for Neighbouring Area

A second bushfire watch and act alert has been issued for a neighbouring section of Helena Valley. This alert applies to residents living between Coulston Road, Approach Road, Clayton Road, and Marriot Road, where there is a possible threat to lives and homes.

Official Safety Instructions and Preparedness

Emergency services have provided clear guidance for those in the affected zones. If the way is clear, residents should leave immediately for a safer place, such as with family or friends away from the area. It is advised to leave in a northerly direction along Darlington Road if safe to do so.

Do not wait and see, as leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger. Take your emergency kit with you when evacuating.

For those who become stuck in their car, park away from bushes, cover yourself with a woollen blanket, and get onto the floor as windows may break from the intense heat.

Sheltering in Place as a Last Resort

If you cannot leave, you must prepare to shelter in your home. It is crucial to shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat can be fatal before the flames reach you.

Go to a room with running water, such as a kitchen or laundry, and ensure it has a clear exit for easy escape. Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.

Updates on the situation will be available at the Emergency WA website. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow all official instructions to ensure their safety during this critical bushfire event.
