Boddington Bushfire: 'Leave Now' Alert as 17sqkm Fire Threatens WA Towns
Emergency 'Leave Now' Alert for Boddington Bushfire Zone

Residents in several communities southeast of Perth are facing an imminent threat from a fast-moving bushfire, with authorities issuing an urgent 'Leave Now' order on Friday morning.

Immediate Danger Sparks Urgent Evacuation Calls

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has told people in parts of Bannister, Ranford, Boddington (including the townsite and gold mine), Marradong, Lower Hotham, and Wuraming that their lives are in danger. The warning is clear: they must act immediately to survive.

"The bushfire is moving towards the Boddington townsite," the DFES alert stated. While weather conditions have temporarily aided firefighters, a wind change is expected in the coming hours, which is likely to cause the fire's behaviour to escalate rapidly.

Uncontained Fire Spreads Across 17 Square Kilometres

Firefighters report the blaze is uncontained, out of control, and behaving erratically. It is currently moving in a southeasterly direction. The path of destruction already covers approximately 17 square kilometres.

A significant risk comes from burning embers, which are likely to start new spot fires ahead of the main fire front. This makes the situation unpredictable and highly dangerous.

DFES has advised that the safest option for those under threat is to leave the area towards Williams. Residents in the Boddington townsite can use Crossman Road to travel east and evacuate.

Road Closures and Emergency Services Response

Several key roads have been closed to ensure public safety and allow emergency vehicles access. These include:

  • Gold Mine Access Rd and mine site access tracks
  • Bannister Marradong Rd from Pinjarra Williams Road to Albany Highway
  • Crossman Rd from Bannister Marradong Rd to Albany Hwy

To support displaced residents, an evacuation centre has been established at the Williams Sports Pavilion on the corner of Pinjarra-Williams Rd and Albany Hwy.

In a related development, Boddington Hospital has closed until further notice. The nearest open hospital for those requiring medical care is Armadale Hospital.

Wider Community Urged to Stay Informed

Other areas within the Shire of Boddington are under a Watch and Act alert. Authorities are urging everyone in the vicinity to keep up to date with the latest official information and advice via the Emergency WA website.

The situation remains volatile, and the message from emergency services is unequivocal: for those in the 'Leave Now' zones, delaying departure could cost lives.
