A bizarre and violent confrontation outside a well-known Melbourne strip club has culminated in a man being rendered unconscious by a chair thrown by his own friend, in a shocking case of friendly fire that left onlookers stunned.
Late-Night Ejection Sparks Street Confrontation
The incident unfolded on King Street, a notorious nightlife strip in Melbourne's central business district, at approximately 9:20 PM on Friday evening. According to reports, two men were forcibly ejected from Bar 20 after allegedly behaving offensively towards dancers and other staff members within the establishment.
Security footage from the venue captures the pair engaging in a physical scuffle with bouncers before being pushed out onto the footpath. One of the men momentarily grabbed a bollard, seemingly contemplating its use as a weapon, but appeared to reconsider when a security guard advanced towards him.
Apology Attempt Leads to Disastrous Retaliation
His companion initially seemed to accept the ejection, sitting down on the footpath in a subdued manner. However, moments later, he returned to the club's entrance, apologising and pleading to be allowed back inside.
Unaware of his friend's actions, the other man entered a neighbouring restaurant and seized a chair from the dining area. A restaurant worker recounted to media that she attempted to intervene, stating the man asked to borrow the chair and she protested, calling it a top chair that could not be taken.
Determined for payback, the man ignored her objections, took the chair outside, and hurled it down the street towards the bar entrance, apparently aiming at the security staff stationed there.
Chair Strikes Friend in Head, Causing Knockout
The bouncer at the door saw the projectile coming and swiftly ducked inside the venue to avoid impact. Tragically, the chair struck his own mate, who had returned to the footpath, hitting him squarely in the head and knocking him unconscious.
CCTV footage reportedly showed security guards laughing at the disastrous miscalculation, suspecting the missile was intended for them. The co-owner of Bar 20 confirmed the men were ejected for offensive behaviour and expressed no doubt that the chair thrower's target was the head of security, who was standing at the front of the premises.
Rapid Recovery and Lack of Emergency Response
The restaurant worker described the chaotic scene, noting that people were yelling and laughing in the aftermath. She was too shocked to speak initially and requested assistance from other staff to retrieve the chair.
Despite the forceful impact and subsequent fall, the victim regained consciousness shortly after the incident. He woke up and walked away seemingly normally, according to witnesses.
It is understood that no one contacted police or called for an ambulance following the altercation, leaving the matter unresolved by authorities. The event highlights the volatile nature of late-night disturbances in Melbourne's entertainment precinct and the unpredictable consequences of impulsive retaliation.
