The video game world is in mourning following the tragic death of industry titan Vince Zampella. The 55-year-old co-founder of Infinity Ward and the creative force behind the Call of Duty franchise died in a horrific car crash in the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles.

The Tragic Incident on Angeles Crest Highway

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred around 12:45pm on December 21. Zampella was driving a red Ferrari when the vehicle veered off the Angeles Crest Highway. Disturbing witness footage shows the high-performance car speeding out of a tunnel before striking a concrete barrier and erupting into flames.

Police confirmed that Zampella was trapped inside the burning wreckage and died at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was thrown from the Ferrari due to the immense force of the impact and later succumbed to injuries in hospital.

Vince Zampella's influence on interactive entertainment is immeasurable. He was a founder and former CEO of Infinity Ward, the studio that developed the original Call of Duty and transformed it into one of the most successful video game franchises in history.
