Taking over the former Jack Rabbit Slim's site in Northbridge, the country-inspired Yee-Haw Bar has just welcomed Perth cowgirls and cowboys for its debut wild west weekend.
Inviting VIPs to its very first rodeo on Thursday, the multi-level bar has been transformed into a neon-lit, boot-scootin' music hub. It features a revived live music stage and dancefloor downstairs, and an intimate cocktail-focused hangout upstairs inspired by Dolly Parton, aptly named Dolly's Lounge.
Dressed in denim, cowboy hats and boots, guests lapped up the laid-back vibe as they got their first taste of Perth's new 'country' club. Owner Ben Maher, who also co-founded American themed burger chain Varsity Bar, has a long history at the Aberdeen Street address.
His father Bob was a trailblazer of Perth's nightlife scene for decades, and is responsible for converting the old Aberdeen Street post office into a nightclub in the mid-90s. After a couple of other ventures and some time away, Ben has returned with a project that's close to his heart.
'I've always been a fan of country music. And given the more recent resurgence of it all, I've sort of always had it in the back of my mind (to open a country-themed bar),' he told PerthNow in April.
Opening weekend served a stacked line up of live country acts, DJs, and beginner-friendly line dancing for those who couldn't resist dipping their toes into the world of western.
