An 18-year-old man is fighting for his life after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in North Queensland. The teenager and a 25-year-old companion were walking along the Kennedy Highway at Mount Garnet when they were hit by a car traveling in the same direction. The incident occurred near the Mount Garnet Rodeo grounds at approximately 2:30 AM on Saturday.
Critical Injuries and Hospitalisation
The younger pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition. Medical staff are providing ongoing treatment for his severe trauma. The 25-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Atherton Hospital for treatment. Both victims were walking along the highway when the incident occurred.
Driver Fails to Stop
The vehicle involved in the collision did not stop at the scene to render assistance or provide identification. Police have launched an investigation into the hit-and-run and are actively searching for the driver. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may help identify the vehicle or its operator.
