A 16-year-old boy has been charged following an alleged brazen assault and robbery of a traffic warden at Rossmoyne Primary School in Perth's southern suburbs.
Details of the incident
The incident occurred around 3:15 pm on Wednesday, March 26, when the traffic warden, a woman in her 60s, was reportedly attacked while on duty. Police allege the teenager approached the warden, demanded her belongings, and then assaulted her before stealing her personal items.
The warden sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Police investigation and charges
Following a swift investigation, officers from the Cannington Police Station arrested the teenager on Thursday, March 27. He has been charged with armed robbery and assault occasioning bodily harm.
The accused is due to appear before the Perth Children's Court on Friday, March 28.
Community reaction
The incident has shocked the local community, with parents expressing concern for the safety of school staff and children. Rossmoyne Primary School principal, Mark Sawle, said the school community was deeply distressed by the attack.
"Our traffic warden is a valued member of our school community, and we are appalled by this senseless act of violence," Mr Sawle said. "We are providing support to the warden and our students."
Police have commended the warden for her bravery and urged anyone with information to come forward.
