Geelong coach Chris Scott has addressed the swirling speculation linking the Cats to GWS star Toby Greene, provided insight into recent club meetings, and offered a selection update ahead of the upcoming clash.
Scott dismisses Toby Greene rumours
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Scott was quick to downplay reports that Geelong was pursuing the controversial GWS forward. "There's always going to be speculation this time of year, but we're focused on our current list and the players we have," Scott said. "Toby is a great player, but we haven't had any discussions about him joining the Cats."
The rumours emerged after Greene was reportedly unhappy with his contract situation at the Giants. However, Scott emphasised that Geelong's recruitment strategy remains unchanged. "We're always looking to improve, but we're very happy with the group we've got," he added.
Club meetings and player feedback
Scott also addressed recent club meetings that have been the subject of much discussion. "We have regular meetings with the playing group to ensure everyone is on the same page," he explained. "These are constructive sessions where players can voice their opinions and we can address any concerns."
The coach highlighted the importance of open communication within the squad. "Our players know they can come to me or the leadership group at any time. We're a tight-knit group and we work through things together."
When asked if there were any specific issues raised, Scott declined to comment, stating that internal matters would remain confidential. "What's said in the room stays in the room. That's how we build trust."
Selection update for upcoming match
Providing a selection update, Scott confirmed that the team is in good shape heading into the weekend. "We've had a solid week on the track and the boys are ready to go," he said. "There are a few niggles, but nothing that will keep anyone out."
Scott hinted at a couple of potential changes to the lineup but kept his cards close to his chest. "We'll finalise the team tomorrow, but we've got some exciting options. The depth in our squad is really pleasing."
One player who could come into consideration is young midfielder Max Holmes, who has impressed in recent VFL games. "Max has been training well and putting pressure on the senior players. That's exactly what we want to see."
The Cats are coming off a solid win and will be looking to maintain their momentum. "We're focused on our process and not getting ahead of ourselves," Scott concluded. "Every game is a challenge in this competition, and we'll be ready."
