Raygun Offers Personalised Cameo Videos After Job Loss

Viral Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael Gunn, also known as Raygun, has unveiled a surprising new gig after losing her job as a university lecturer. Gunn is hoping to make the most of her fame by offering fans personalised video messages via the celebrity platform Cameo.

Raygun's Cameo Venture

The 38-year-old is charging around $94 for a custom video message, joining the ranks of former TV stars, AFL greats, models, and even former jailbirds-turned-reality stars already making money on the platform.

“Whether it’s a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or a long-awaited reunion, make it unforgettable with a one-of-a-kind Cameo video from Raygun,” the website states.

Cameo users can customise their requests for stars on the platform, “like asking them to mention inside jokes, share words of wisdom, or work in their signature catchphrases”.

“Don’t be afraid to get creative with your request, especially for celebrations like weddings, retirements, or bachelor and bachelorette parties that call for a good laugh. No matter the occasion, the video will be yours to keep – share the fun and relive the moment for years to come.”

New Career After Redundancy

The new venture comes after Gunn took a voluntary redundancy from her role as a pop culture lecturer in April, as dramatic cuts ripped through Sydney’s Macquarie University arts department. Since leaving her teaching job, Gunn has also launched a new website where she is available to be booked as a guest speaker or host for events.

Some of her listed hot-button topics include resilience, mental health, navigating online attention, women in sport, breaking barriers, and “going viral (and staying grounded)”.

“Rachael’s strength lies in her adaptability, shaping not just what she says, but how she delivers it,” her website states. “Whether the audience is academic, corporate, creative, or sporty, she connects in a way that’s not only engaging but refreshingly genuine.”

Viral Fame at Paris Olympics

Gunn’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics launched her to viral fame. Her moves, which included writhing on the ground like a snake and hopping like a kangaroo, attracted ridicule around the globe. Despite the backlash, her signature kangaroo move has made her a household name.

The homepage of Gunn’s website features an image of her in a spinning wheel pose, while a user’s cursor appears in the shape of her famous kangaroo stance rather than a traditional arrow.
